Vigil

Vigil disrupts storefront retail display by placing people in the window, confronting passersby with issues and lives to consider, rather than objects to be consumed.

Vigil includes live-performed and photographed responses to the question, “Equitable Development: Who Needs It?” by eleven diverse neighborhood residents who collaborated me to create the work.

Vigil aims at prompting thought, perhaps even shifting perspectives, on the VALUE of affordable housing, amenities, and access to public space, for all people, in all Cincinnati neighborhoods.

A vigil is a period of keeping awake during the time usually spent asleep, especially to keep watch or pray. Vigils are held when something has been, or is at risk of being, lost or gone missing. By voicing what, in their experience, is missing and urgently needed in Cincinnati, community collaborators perform their awake-ness to possibility, and call on others to wake up to the potential benefit for all, if equitable development were to be the standard in our city.
